Whitehall
Where Catholic homeschooling families come together to support each other in the raising of our children for the Kingdom of Heaven
Frustrated by the myriad distractions of dishes, laundry and email when you're trying to homeschool? Whitehall may be the place for you. We homeschool our children out of the house and in community.
Mission
To aid Catholic families in homeschooling.
This is done by:
Bringing families together in an environment that supports our Catholic identity and encourages children to grow in virtue.
Providing an environment for homeschooling that limits the distractions of the demands of the household.
Allowing moms and children to work with other moms and children and limit the conflict that can sometimes result when mom is also the teacher
Providing a space where materials can be shared so as to lessen the financial burden on individual families of buying materials.
Allowing moms to use their talents in areas where they feel comfortable while still giving their children a homeschooling education.
Building in a scheduled day in which moms can be refreshed and renewed.
School Day Schedule
Due to the desire to maintain a consistent work environment for the moms and children, those who would like to use the space for homeschooling are asked to commit to being at the schoolhouse Tuesday-Friday, 9am-1pm. Lunch, recess, and afternoon time are optional.
(Those who are dropping older children off elsewhere, such as at Lyceum, are welcome to arrive early and eat breakfast at the schoolhouse.)

Monthly Mom's Day
Since the moms are with their children day in and day out, it is vitally important that they have one day a month to refresh and renew themselves. It is also important for the cohesiveness of the community that the moms have time together for building friendships and for assessing how things are going at school so that we can make adjustments as needed.
Dads are welcome to take their children to the Budnik's Bratenahl house for any portion of the day.

Expectations
Attend on the days your family has chosen as often as possible. There will be a room which a non-vomiting, non-feverish sick child can use so that the rest of the family can still attend. Please notify Elizabeth or Rebecca by 9am if your family will not be in attendance when expected.
Moms:
Treat all children and adults with respect
Attend monthly moms day
Children

Distracting themselves or others
Dangerous
Disrespectful
Distructive
Follow the child's lead - if a child is very interested in a topic, help him or her to find ways to expand across curriculum areas through finding related activities
Other notes
We will go outside for recess everyday unless it is raining hard. Please bring appropriate clothing for your children. You are welcome to leave things like snowsuits at school so that you don't have to bring them back and forth each day.
If you bring books or materials to share, and you would eventually like them back, please label them.
Latin
We will have a teacher come in one morning a week, for the last hour of work period to teach Latin. All homeschoolers are welcome to attend. Beginner group is for ages 7+.
If there are a lot of younger siblings in attendance, and someone wants to plan something, we can have a class for 4-6yos during the same time.
Drama Club
Open to any homeschooling family.
We will meet on Friday afternoons (with the exception of first Fridays) from 1-3:15
The children will do some group memorization, recitation and illustration, fun skits and drama games. In the Spring we will perform a play together! Last year among other poems the children memorized and illustrated "Pied Beauty," by Gerard Manley Hopkins and delighted us with a performance of three short plays: "Rumplestiltskin,""The Little Clown" and "Princess Nimblewit." We will wrap up with "Poetry Teatime" at 2:30 (mothers invited!) and families are invited to stay for the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3 o'clock. We hope you will join us!

When the world is all at odds, and the mind is all at sea.
Then cease the useless tedium, and brew a cup of tea.
There is magic in its fragrance, there is solace in its taste.
And the laden moments vanish, somehow into space.
The world becomes a lovely thing, there’s beauty as you’ll see.
All because you briefly stopped to brew a cup of tea. ~ Anonymous
